in Things I Know, Tis a Meme

Happy Friday beautiful people!

Tis been a busy week in OgreLand.

I claimed Gravel back from my bestie, but forgot to steal the damn gnome on my way out – Gravel is healing nicely by the way. Although she did take the top of her gravel rash yesterday playing tips and retired from the game after a short five minutes. The Oldest OgreBoy and The Sixth got back from being away over Christmas. We’ve had horrific heat a few days this week which had me stuck in the house with four kids playing xBox 360 for hours upon hours straight – I also kicked JW14′s arse in Scrabble that same day. We’ve had a couple of days where we’ve hung out with MTA and her clan just ’cause.

I’ve also eaten more than my share of chocolate this week.

Here is what I know about being a Mum to a ‘large’ family -

  • I know lots of food is required to keep them all happy. Living in a small town makes that suck immensely, the two small supermarkets we have charge an arm, a leg and a kidney for the weekly shop. Oh plus lots of money.
  • I know for the reason of my arms, legs and kidneys – and the fact I only have two of each -  I really am desperate for the new Woolworths to be built sooner rather than later.
  • I know the laundry being empty is something I can achieve.
  • I know just because the laundry is empty the job isn’t done yet.
  • I know Mt Foldmore is more scary than Mt Washmore.
  • I know cooking for more is easier than cooking for less.
  • I know I am soooo happy all the kids are finally home and I haven’t screwed up dinner since they all got back.
  • I know bunks are a bitch to make, and I know lots of swear words when I smash my head on the top one when I’m making the bottom one.
  • I know I like the “L” set of bunks better. They’re easier to make.
  • I know I can ignore a tantrum like a trooper.
  • I know begging for soft drink is a waste of my kids time. More times than not a big fat “no” will be my answer to said begging.
  • I know my carpet can go from looking clean to looking like a football team took a shortcut through my house within five minutes of the vacuum turned off.
  • I no “nobody” and “I don’t know” live with us. I’ve never seen them, but apparently they are who do the naughty things nobody else does.
  • I know I am dreading the next two days of kids being inside because of the heat.
  • I know having a bucket of water in the bottom of the shower to wash dirty feet during the day, saves a lot of water when six kids feel the need to go running around in the dirt upteen times a day.

If you are in a high fire danger area this weekend and you are subject to the high temperatures Mother Nature has on offer over the next few days – Please stay safe. Stay aware. Keep yourself hydrated, and make sure your furbabies have shelter from the heat with plenty of water.

Peace out beautiful people! Have a flippin fantastically amazing weekend!

You know quite a few things this week Miss Cinders. I agree, Mt Foldmore is WAY more scary that Mt Washmore. Washing is easy, folding and putting away is honestly the bane of my life!

Oh I agree! Thankfully I have the four big teens to help with the folding these days. Still leaves me a bit to do myself, but the help is sooooo appreciated!

Have a fabulous day hun! x

LOL – Mt Foldmore doesn’t really worry me as it is one of K’s chores !!! Mt Washmore is scarier – so much so that I have taken the stance “If you don’t put you washing in the laundry every day and only clear your floor-robe once a week, I will not wash your clothes – they will stay there until you have a day off work and can wash them yourself.” It’s amazing how long you get the washing on a daily basis after that statement is made !!
I also think it is easier to cook for more than less – if A isn’t home I generally don’t bother cooking at all and K and I just find something to keep us going until our next meal !!
Have the best day and thanks for hosting TIK !!

How does one pass on the whole job to another? I need to know more!

Yep, if I’m a few kids down ‘fend for yourself’ becomes more than once a week lol

You have an awesome day too!! xxx

It’s quite easy – you just say to said member of the family – this is your job now. After I have sorted, washed, hung up or tumbled the washing, I will put it in a wash basket in / near your bedroom door – when you see it there, that is your que that you need to fold it and put it away. OK sometimes it doesn’t work that easily and I have to nag but I figure most of the time it is easier to nag that do Mt Foldmore myself !!!!!
She has a few chores to do – feeding and water for the dogs, picking up poos (she shares these chores with A), filling the cold drinks in the fridge, taking the trash out and putting the bins out each week, cooking once a week (although she has been very slack with that lately given she works until 7pm most nights now that the park is open later) and emptying the dishwasher.
She often laments being an only child because it means she has to do all the chores by herself (because of course her Dad and I don’t do any chores at all !!!!!!)
Good luck with passing the Mt Foldmore baton to someone else !

I’m going to tell my kids that you gave me ideas for new chores lol I think having someone be in charge of the cold water in the fridge is a great idea! We go through so much and I’m the only one that fills it up!

The garbage… don’t get me started on the garbage!

I’ve started the four teens folding the linen as well as their own clothes, cuts down the pile by heaps, but I’m still stuck folding the two smallest OgreKids clothes and my own. If only we lived in a nudist colony lol

Thanks for linking up twice! I’m going to have to keep track of your decluttering blog, I have to get back into it. I’ve let things slide a bit over the past year, and I have ‘stuff’ everywhere these days which makes more chaos and cleaning!

You really a smart mumma, and obviously meant to be a mum to lots! I love that you have nobody and I don’t know at your house, they seem to frequent mine A LOT! I’ve got to learn to be a better cook as my boys are starting to shape up to be BIG eaters, my girl still a fussy eater..
And man I totally hate folding, which is why I’ve left 2 loads on the line for 2 days, and just take off what I need as I go. Mother of Year #reason154

One of the benefits of having my mum staying with me at the moment is that Mt Washmore, and its sister, Foldmore, never become mountains…

“nobody” and “I don’t know” live at my house too. ;)

Thanks for the linky Miss Cinders you are one wise mummy!! Loving the bucket in the bottom of the shower as we have the black foot brigade every night with this hot weather!!
I must also agree Mt Foldmore is way worse than Mt Washmore but I really hate Mt Puttaway the mos,t I seem to be surrounded by washing baskets in every room and my munchkins are only starting to help put some away thankfully! :-)

Ok I’m back, having actually been able to keep my eyes open long enough to read your awesome post.
In theory the cooking for more than less should be easier but I have a slight problem in that the more people allow for more I don’t like that. Which some days drives me batty and leaves me screaming eat what you’ve got or go hungry. This is usually just before I nip out to pick up my mother of the year award. Good idea with the bucket of water for feet washing, only why don’t you move it to the front/back door to save the carpet a little?
